Voters with disabilities are encouraged to share their voting experiences. Connecting and sharing perspectives helps remind everyone how important these issues are to Florida’s disability communities, including candidates for office and election officials. Speaking up and asking for help from others can also help make changes for others who are voting with a disability in future elections. Here are several ways to share your voting story:
SABE USA’s GoVoter Survey Project
SABE USA (Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered) coordinates a voter experience survey following election cycles. The GoVoter Survey is designed to learn about the experience voters with disabilities have when voting to better understand how to address problems. Survey results help educate the public on voting barriers and allow SABE to improve its voter education training efforts.
Disability Rights Florida
Disability Rights Florida, the state’s Protection and Advocacy (P&A) organization, performs advocacy, education and outreach related to ensuring voting access for voters with disabilities in the state. Florida Department of State, Division of Elections
The Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) requires that states establish a procedure for voters to submit complaints concerning the voting process. Florida’s complaint form is for persons who believe that a violation of their rights under the Act has occurred or will occur relating to voting or registration systems or processes.
